Responsibilities
Tasks
• Co-ordinate special events
• Determine the size of food portions and costs
• Plan menus and estimate food requirements for their realization
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies
• Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
• Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
• Prepare and cook special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef
• Inspect kitchens and food service areas
• Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
• Order supplies and equipment
• Supervise kitchen staff and helpers
• Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
• Clean kitchen and work areas
• Recruit and hire staff
• Organize buffets and banquets

• Prepare and cook complete meals and individual dishes specializing in Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, street food, vegetarian dishes, and specialty menu items.
• Prepare and cook food according to established recipes, portion controls, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
• Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and appearance of all menu items.
• Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, marinating, seasoning, and measuring food products.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including grills, fryers, ovens, tandoors, and other cooking appliances.
• Monitor food inventory levels and communicate supply requirements to management.
• Inspect food supplies and ingredients to ensure freshness, quality, and proper storage.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, workstations, and food preparation areas.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards.
• Minimize food waste and ensure proper handling and storage of food products.
• Assist in planning menus, daily specials, and introducing new dishes when required.
• Train and guide kitchen helpers and other kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and workplace safety procedures.
• Coordinate food preparation activities with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient service during peak operating hours.
• Accommodate customer dietary preferences, allergies, and special requests when required.
• Adhere to all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
